    Understanding Amazon FBA Storage Fees

Amazon FBA storage fees are charged for storing your inventory in Amazon's fulfillment centers. These fees are calculated based on the daily average volume (in cubic feet) of your inventory and vary depending on the time of year and the size tier of your products.

    Monthly Storage Fee Rates

Amazon charges different rates for monthly storage based on the product size tier and time of year:

Size TierJan - SepOct - Dec
Standard-Size$0.78 per cubic foot$2.40 per cubic foot
Oversize$0.56 per cubic foot$1.40 per cubic foot

    Aged Inventory Surcharges

In addition to monthly storage fees, Amazon charges aged inventory surcharges for inventory stored longer than 181 days. Rates vary by age band and can change, so this calculator uses the per-unit amount you enter from Seller Central instead of presenting an old flat rate as current.

How to Reduce FBA Storage Fees

    • Monitor your Inventory Performance Index (IPI) to avoid storage limits
    • Use Amazon's FBA Inventory Age report to identify slow-moving inventory
    • Create removal orders before inventory reaches a more expensive age band
    • Run promotions or lower prices on slow-moving products
    • Optimize your product packaging to reduce dimensional weight
    • Plan inventory levels carefully, especially before Q4 when rates increase
    • Consider using Amazon's Outlet or liquidation programs for excess inventory

    Size Tier Classification

Amazon classifies products into size tiers that affect both storage and fulfillment fees. Standard-size products are those that weigh 20 lb or less and measure 18" × 14" × 8" or less when fully packaged. Products that exceed these dimensions are classified as Oversize and may incur different fee structures.

    Peak Season Considerations

Storage fees increase significantly during the fourth quarter (October through December) to reflect the higher demand for warehouse space during the holiday shopping season. Standard-size storage fees nearly triple during this period. Plan your inventory strategy accordingly to balance having enough stock to meet holiday demand while minimizing excess storage costs.
